The Rivers State House of Assembly has promised to intervene in the face-off between the Asssociation of Medical Laboratory in the state and the Rivers State Teaching Hospital. Speaker of the state House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ikunyi Ibani disclosed this in a statement in Port Harcourt over the weekend. He said the health sector in the state shouldn't be engulfed in any crises owing to the huge investment in the sector by the state Government. Ikunyi Ibani said the house committees on Health, Education and and Public Complaints will look into the matter with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem. The Association had few days protested to the state assembly over what they termed encroachment by the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a law criminalizing non wearing of face masks in public places.

The assembly passed the law today, following a motion moved by Sam Ogeh, member representing Emohua State Constituency.

Ogeh who complained of the refusal of residents to put on masks, said the COVID-19 pandemic is being undermined in the state.

Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi Owaji Igbani, called on the executive to ensure the enforcement of all COVID-19 protocols.

“The enforcement of the wearing of face masks in public places in the state must be sustained and implemented as passed by the House,” he said.
