Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says the state government will begin demolition of illegal structures and shanties in the old Port Harcourt township and the Diobu axis, from the second week of January, 2022.
Wike, in a statement said the government will takeover all abandoned and undeveloped property in GRA, as it constitutes danger to public safety.
He said most undeveloped buildings have been used as hideouts by criminals who terrorize members of the public.
The governor, also said such properties when seized, will be handed over to individuals who can develop and make proper use of them.
He said the state government is not out to victimize anyone, rather to consolidate on the developmental achievements of his administration.
He urged those perpetrating crime in the state to desist from the act, or face the full weight of the law when caught.
