The Rivers State Government has launched an urgent response to combat a cholera outbreak reported in several Local Government Areas (LGAs).
State Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Prince Samuel Eyiba, in a statement said plans are underway to implement Enlightenment Programs and Advocacy Campaigns aimed at promoting behavioral changes in rural communities.
He said, as part of the effort, the ministry will introduce the WASH Clinic initiative, a statewide program designed to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene standards in all LGAs.
According to him, the ministry is collaborating with key agencies, including the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), and Local Government WASH units, to ensure a coordinated approach.
Additionally, he said plans are underway to rehabilitate water facilities in affected rural areas to provide safe and potable drinking water.
Prince Eyiba emphasized that the state government’s swift response underscores its commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of its residents.
