The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has clarified that his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 does not mean the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not field candidates in other elections.
Wike made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
He said the “rainbow coalition” had nothing to do with the All Progressives Congress (APC), but was a platform for members of different political parties to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
“What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the reelection of the President. I never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates to contest governorship, National Assembly and States House of Assembly elections,” Wike said.
He urged politicians facing challenges in their states to resolve them locally, stressing that “politics is local.”
Wike also pointed to the 2023 elections, where voters supported different parties in presidential and legislative contests, arguing that the same could happen in 2027.
He urged stakeholders to prioritise Tinubu’s re-election, adding: “After the President must have been reelected, we can all go and face elections in our States.”
