The Rivers State Ministry of Education has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will commence on Wednesday, July 1, across the state, urging all public and private schools to ensure adequate preparation of their students for the examination.
In a public interest announcement signed by the Director of Examinations and Records Department, Pastor Gideon Nwachukwu Uboh, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, the ministry directed schools in all local government areas, except Obio/Akpor, to collect and return examination materials through their respective Zonal Education Offices.
Schools within Obio/Akpor Local Government Area were instructed to confirm their designated centres for the collection and return of examination materials at the following custodial centres: Community Secondary School, Okoro-Nu-Odo (Zone I); State Primary School I, Rumuapara (Zone II); and Community Secondary School, Ozuoba (Zone III).
The ministry also disclosed that the Rivers State Government has paid the examination fees for all candidates in public schools.
It warned that any principal or teacher found demanding money from students in public schools under any guise would face appropriate sanctions.
