The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has pledged its full support for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, with measures in place to ensure effective waste evacuation and a clean, healthy environment throughout the event.
The Managing Director of RIWAMA, Dr. Ibimina Wokoma, disclosed this during a working visit to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, the venue of the conference.
Wokoma said the agency had intensified its operations across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas to ensure a clean environment for delegates and residents during the conference.
He commended the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his efforts in making the state conducive for investment, hospitality and business, as well as his commitment to restoring Port Harcourt’s status as the Garden City.
The outgoing National President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, appreciated RIWAMA for its commitment to delivering a zero-waste conference.
Osigwe urged the agency to use the conference as an opportunity to showcase the environmental restoration efforts of the Rivers State Government.
As part of its preparations, RIWAMA has deployed sanitation marshals across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor for public sensitisation, while waste collection bins have been positioned at strategic locations, particularly around the conference venues.
The agency said the measures are aimed at promoting proper waste disposal and maintaining a clean environment throughout the NBA Conference.
