Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Wednesday attacked Bodo community in Gokana local government area of Rivers State, burnt down houses and shot sporadically in the air.
A Facebook user identified as Eric Sharpillo disclosed this in a post on Facebook Today.
He also alleged that the Shell office in Bodo community was destroyed, and that a Police officer attached to the Koroma Police Division was attacked with his ammunition taken away from him.
The statement reads,
Update on Bodo Community Crisis:
Yesterday Wednesday 16th November, 2022, we brought you a report of the crisis in Bodo Community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
We informed you how cultists have gone on rampage, sacked members of the community burnt houses, burnt and destroyed the shell office in Bodo Community.
Another update reaching us today has it that the culprits made away with AK 47 riffle with 20 rounds of ammunition belonging to an officer of the Koroma Police Division posted to the Shell Office in Bodo Community after beating and stabbing him with bottles and machete.
According to reports, the cultists are forcing contractors to pay them without working or else nobody works there.
It is a pity that shell has employed over 800 Ogoni Indigenes into their workforce and the actions by these cultist will be counter productive as these youths employed will be jobless.
We hereby call on the Rivers State Government, relevant security agencies and stakeholders to wade into the crisis in Bodo Community to restore the community back to normalcy as the community has been overtaken by cultists who dictates what happens as those who fails to follow their orders are maimed and brutally dealt with according to our source.
