Environmental Activist, Celestine Akpobari has scored the Wike-led administration zero on efforts to tackle environmental pollution in the last one year.
Akpobari, in a statement yesterday, said people are “dying of the soot and we think it is covid-19”, adding that it is what people are inhaling that is killing them.
He added that if it continues like this into the new year, Rivers people are doomed forever.
He slammed Governor, Wike for failing to appoint a commissioner for Environment, after Hon. Ibiks Tamuno was fired over nine months ago.
Akpobari, stated that if the state had an environment commissioner the situation would have been better.
He called on the governor to with immediate effect appoint an environment commissioner to help curb the menace.
Hon. Ibiks Tamuno was sacked by Governor, Nyesom Wike for allegedly going against public service ethics. That, was after launching an air quality reporting system in the state, nine months ago.
