Governor Nyesom Wike has declared Caverton Helicopters persona non grata in the state. This is primarily because the company violated the state’s no-flight order, put in place to check the spread of COVID-19.

Wike in a state-wide broadcast on Wednesday, ordered that the offices of Caverton be sealed-off.  The state governor who had had earlier ordered the arrest of all the passengers on-board the company’s aircraft, accused the company’s management of placing more value on their business than on the lives of the Rivers people.

Meanwhile, the federal government has condemned the actions of the state government. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, in Abuja yesterday said, the governor has no such powers.

Sirika also stated that the officers who carried out the arrest, exhibited high level of ignorance.  He, therefore, called on the state government to release all those arrested with immediate effect.
