The Rivers State Government has set October 31, 2026, as the deadline for all commercial transport operators in the state to paint their vehicles in the officially approved state colours.
The Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Dr (Mrs) Vera Ndidi Sam-Dike, disclosed this in a statement, warning that strict monitoring and enforcement of the directive would commence on November 1, 2026.
The directive applies to operators of taxis, buses and tricycles, popularly known as keke, across the state.
The ministry said the measure was aimed at strengthening public safety and security by making legitimate commercial transport vehicles easily identifiable to commuters.
It warned that all unpainted or improperly painted commercial vehicles must comply with the directive on or before the October 31 deadline.
According to the ministry, any commercial vehicle found operating without the approved state colour scheme after the deadline would be impounded, while the operator would be barred from service until full compliance and payment of applicable fines.
The ministry advised affected operators seeking further information, particularly on approved painting workshops offering subsidised rates, to contact the Head of the Land Transportation Department, Engr. Andrew Alapuberesisika, on 08036705909.
The state government also commended transport union leaders and vehicle owners who had already complied with the directive, urging others to complete the process before enforcement begins.
