The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The Command also ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation after a video showing the suspected cultists visiting the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project went viral on social media.
In a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Command said it strongly condemned any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, warning that they must not become platforms for criminal groups to seek public recognition or legitimacy.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, said it maintained zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Police.
According to the statement, the investigation would establish the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, the officers who authorised the project, and whether due procedures were followed.
It would also determine whether any police personnel breached professional standards, compromised the integrity of the Force or were involved in the incident.
The Command acknowledged that legitimate community support for improving police facilities was permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
However, it emphasised that such assistance must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.
The statement added that the investigation would determine whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate background checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.
It warned that no donation or assistance would confer immunity from investigation or prosecution.
The Command reiterated that it would not condone unprofessional conduct, compromise or any form of improper association between police officers and criminal elements.
It assured residents that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions would be taken against anyone found culpable, in accordance with the outcome of the investigation and extant laws.
The Police Command also urged members of the public to remain calm and continue providing credible and timely information to support security efforts across Rivers State.
