The Rivers State Police Command has denied allegations linking the Commander of 56 Police Mobile Force (PMF), ACP London Irikefe, to the arrest and prosecution of four suspects accused of unlawful detention and other offences.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said in a statement that ACP Irikefe was not involved in the arrest or prosecution of Darlington Ogulo, Eze Woke Solomon, Wali Perfect and Augustine Charles.
According to the Command, the operation followed a complaint by Gift Benjamin Odogbo on August 17, 2026, alleging that her mother, Kate Odogbo, had been abducted and was being held at a detention facility allegedly owned by one Gabriel Asa Abuja.
Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) were subsequently deployed to the location, where the alleged victim was rescued and the four suspects arrested.
The police said one pump-action firearm and one locally fabricated long gun were recovered, while the access road to the facility was found blocked with sandbags.
The suspects were allegedly linked to illegal possession of firearms, intimidation, unlawful detention and operating a security outfit without the required licence or authorisation.
The four suspects were charged to court on August 21, 2026.
The Command urged the public to disregard claims linking ACP Irikefe to the case and cautioned bloggers and social media users against spreading false or defamatory information capable of causing public mischief.
It reaffirmed its commitment to professional policing, respect for human rights, transparency and impartial enforcement of the law.
