The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), has conducted a one-day orientation programme for 40 newly recruited nurses under the Expanded Midwives Services Scheme (eMSS).
The orientation, held on Thursday, marked the successful onboarding and deployment of nurses to various Local Government Areas across the state, aiming to strengthen the delivery of quality maternal and newborn healthcare services.
According to the Board, the deployment forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to skilled birth attendants and enhance primary healthcare services, particularly for pregnant women and newborns.
The initiative is in line with the commitment of both the Federal and Rivers State governments to reduce maternal mortality by tackling preventable causes of maternal and newborn deaths through improved healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
