ESOCS Devotional 4 July 2026 – The Power of Perspective
MEMORY VERSE: “Now the Lord said to Moses: ‘Go up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel.” Numbers 27:12 KJV
TEXT: NUMBERS 27:12-END
And the Lord said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.
14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.
15 And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying,
16 Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
18 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:
23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

In Numbers 27:12, God instructs Moses to ascend Mount Abarim to view the Promised Land. Moses had faithfully led Israel through the wilderness, but because of an earlier act of disobedience (Numbers 20:12), he was not permitted to enter the land himself. Yet, God graciously allowed him to see it from afar.
This passage teaches us a profound truth: Perspective has power. Even though Moses would not physically step into Canaan, the ability to see it gave him hope, closure, and a renewed sense of purpose to prepare the next generation.
God often gives us glimpses of what He is doing or what lies ahead, not to frustrate us, but to shift our perspective. He wants us to rise above our circumstances and see things from His vantage point. When we’re stuck in the valley of disappointment, frustration, or delay, God invites us to climb higher in faith, prayer, and His Word.
Perspective doesn’t change our situation, but it transforms how we respond to it. Moses could have become bitter, but instead, he submitted to God’s plan and invested in mentoring Joshua. Why? This was because he had seen the promise, and that vision re-aligned his heart with God’s purpose.
Today, you might not be where you hoped to be. But don’t let your current position define your destiny. Ask God to show you what He sees. Let His perspective fuel your faith, comfort your heart, and empower your obedience.
Reflections
- In what areas of your life are you struggling to see God’s bigger picture?
- How has your current perspective affected your attitude or faith walk?
- What would it look like to see your situation from God’s point of view?
Action Step
Climb in prayer: Spend intentional time with God, asking Him to open your eyes to see as He sees. Reflect on His promises: Revisit scriptures that remind you of God’s plan and goodness. Encourage others: Like Moses prepared Joshua, support someone else in their journey of faith.
Prayer
- Heavenly Father, give me the eyes to see what you see.
- Lift me above my doubts, disappointments, and delays.
- Help me to trust in your perfect plan even when the outcome doesn’t align with my expectations.
- Grant me a renewed perspective that brings peace and purpose, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
