The Rivers All Progressives Congress, has reacted to claims by Governor, Nyesom Wike that former Governor, Chibuike Amaechi sold state assets while in office, and was indicted by a Panel of inquiry.
Wike, had in a statement on Saturday, said Amaechi even sold an aircraft purchased by Dr. Peter Odili and diverted the funds for his personal use.
But, in a swift reaction, Spokesperson for the party, Ogbonna Nwuke dismissed the allegations, describing it as cheap and inaccurate.
He said the Panel of inquiry set up by the Governor, exonorated Amaechi but Wike has refused to accept their findings.
Ogbonna, stated that Wike should lead the prosecution team to court, if he is truly sure of his facts, as people who are guilty are not tried in the court of public opinion.
“People who are guilty are not tried in the court of public opinion. They are tried in open courts that are duly constituted. Wike should lead the prosecution team to court if he is sure of his facts, or halt the penchant for peddling worthless, inaccurate, and cheap accusation,” he said.
“We ask Governor Wike to explain why he is finding it difficult to prosecute a man who is not covered by immunity at this time for his alleged crimes while in office as Governor? Why is Governor Wike unable to accept the findings of a panel of Inquiry that was set up by him which exonerated Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi before he was sworn in as Minister of Transportation?” Nwuke added.
