The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticized the People’s Democratic Party, in Rivers State for organizing an event on Saturday, which was a day of mourning for the nation.
The Rivers PDP, on Saturday, held a grand reception to welcome new members of the party in Port Harcourt.
Reacting to the development, Spokesperson for the party, Ogbonna Nwuke in a statement in Port Harcourt, on Sunday, said televising such an event was an act of great disrespect for the military officers who lost their lives in a plane crash.
He said Wike and his colleagues in Rivers State, simply proved that politics was more important to them, than appreciating the grief of heartbroken Nigerians.
“We are truly shocked that Governor Nyesom Wike, a Head of Government who is a prime beneficiary of the effort that members of the Armed Forces are making to keep him and the good people of Rivers State safe, could go ahead with a pre-planned reception intended to receive a handful of “bread and butter” politicians,” he said.
“The APC would have overlooked the charade which took place in the Rivers capital; an event which was broadcast on television; if the Wike administration did not create the impression, through a senseless jamboree, that the Rivers people are insensitive,” Nwuke added.
Nwuke also noted that events planned for the weekend, across the country were shifted in order to enable Nigerians pay their last respect to the fallen heroes, but Wike and his men callously went ahead with theirs.
