Press Release
The Opobo/Nkoro APC Campaign Council has received with rude shock the passing away of 3 young persons between the 30th December 2022 and 11th January 2023 to malaria parasite.
The APC in Opobo/Nkoro commiserate with the families of these persons who passed away and we pray that the good Lord in his infinite mercy will grant them the fortitude to bear the pains of these death and do pray for the eternal repose of their souls in the bosom of the Almighty.
These losses would have been averted if there was a responsible government in the Local Government Area that cares about the health and welfare of the people.
As a Campaign Council, we do not wish to play politics with these deaths but it is imparative that we remind the good people of Opobo/Nkoro LGA how inhumane and grossly irresponsible the authorities of the LGA are to the people of the area, particularly under this PDP administration.
A Local Government Council that is fully aware that the Governor and Rivers State Government is uninterested in funding the health sector will improvise to ensure that the health centres in the area are functional and that there are lab scientists and laboratory centers with medical doctors and nurses available at all times to provide medical care to the people. We are also aware that there are plethora cases of death that has gone unannounced, including pregnant women.
We had expected that much would have been done with the whooping sum of over 10 billion naira that have been received from the Federal allocations, excess crude, state interventions and other sources over these years. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Just yesterday, Gov. Wike also testified to have given the 23 LGA chairmen between 300 million and 500 million Naira each as support for the LGA. We ask, what did the LGA Chairman do with the one accruing to Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, when a town generator cannot be fixed for over 2 weeks in a festive season, notwithstanding the false claim of overhauling.
While we use this medium to call on the world health organization (WHO?, federal ministry of health, unesco and other well meaning organization to come to our aide in Opobo/Nkoro LGA and save lives.
We also call on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to beam their light on the treasury of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council as nothing tangible is seen happening, other than sharing of our collective resources by a cabal led by Sir. Sim Fubara.
We, therefore appeal to the Opobo/Nkoro people to go collect their PVCs and join hands with the All Progressive Congress (APC) to oust this heartless and irresponsible government in the state.
