The Rivers State Ministry of Education has denied reports making rounds that it ordered schools in the state to pay the sum of N50,000 for online classes. The report also had it that, it directed the purchase of DVDs for students at the cost of N1200.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku in a statement described the report as false. He said the ministry never gave such directives to any school in the state officially or otherwise.
Ebeku urged residents to always verify information before publication. The reports are handiwork of mischief makers, he noted.
Meanwhile, criticisms have continued to trail the directive of the ministry over the resumption of academic activities online. Some stakeholders believe it is a wrong move because the necessary measures have not been put in place to achieve such feat.
