The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), says a total of 17 Political parties will contest the forthcoming April 17, local government elections, with the All Progressives Congress, not included.
The Commission, which made this known in a statement today, promised residents of the state, a free, fair and credible poll.
RSIEC, had earlier announced that the logo of the APC, will appear on the ballot papers because it had already printed them, before the Supreme Court ruling, but that no candidate would be recognized.
The electoral body assured residents of adequate security, and encouraged them to come out in their numbers and vote their preferred candidates.
