The Human Rights Writers’ Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has reacted to the ban on the meeting of United Igbo Community in Rivers State, by Governor Nyesom Wike.
National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, in a statement over the weekend, called on Gov. Wike to lift the ban placed on the meeting of the group.
He said the ban violates several constitutional provisions, as everyone is entitled to freedom of association.
He stated that the actions portrays the Governor, as a lawless emperor, who does not care about the constitutional rights and freedom of Rivers people and Nigerians in general.
The state government had placed a ban on the meeting of the group in Oyigbo LGA, citing security reasons.
