Rivers State is set to host the 2026 edition of the President’s Inter-Senior Secondary Schools Debate Championship from Tuesday, August 18, to Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, disclosed this on Monday while briefing newsmen, saying students from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory will participate in the three-day competition.
Nwagor said the championship will begin with an opening ceremony at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumueme, on Tuesday, while the grand finale will be held at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre on Thursday.
He disclosed that the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will be the Chief Host.
According to the Commissioner, an Award of Excellence will also be presented to Governor Fubara during the grand finale in recognition of his performance as the best-performing governor in the South-South geopolitical zone.
The championship is expected to bring together senior secondary school students from across the country to compete in debate and showcase their intellectual and public-speaking abilities.
