The Rivers State Ministry of Education has suspended operations at Wisdom Gate International School, Campus 1, in Eligbolo, following the death of a two-year-old girl.
In a statement issued on April 15, 2026, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, said the decision followed a review of the tragic incident which occurred on March 17, 2026, at the approved private school.
The ministry expressed sympathy to the parents of the deceased child, describing the loss as irreparable, and urged the public to respect the family’s privacy while avoiding speculation.
According to the statement, the ministry engaged with the school’s management and conducted an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It added that the school will remain shut and will not resume academic activities until all issues related to the case are fully resolved.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety, proper care, and quality standards across both public and private schools in the state.
