The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, in Rivers State has called for support, partnership and collaboration from members of the public to continue fighting for the rights of women and children in the society.
Chairperson of the group in the state, Adata Bio-Briggs made this known in a statement on Monday.
According to her, this year marks the group’s 35 years of handling all kinds of complaints, and that they sometimes receive more than 30 complaints from members of the public in a day.
Her statement reads,
At the Fida Nigeria Fida Rivers State Branch Legal Centre we receive all sorts of complaints. This is 35 years of handling complaints on –
Young children defiled by men.
Daughters defiled by their fathers.
Teenage boys sodomized.
Women beaten half dead by husbands.
Women thrown out of matrimonial home with children.
Men prevented from accessing his children.
Gender Based Violence cases.
Abandonment
Failure to provide necessaries.
Inheritance
Marital crises
Human rights abuses
Sometimes more than 30 complaints in a day.
