Chairman of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Israel Pepple says one female passenger lost her life following an attack by sea pirates on two speed boats along the Abonnema to Kula waterway on Monday.
Pepple in a chat with journalists Today said the pirates threw the passengers into the water and took away one of the boats.
He said the corpse of the woman has been recovered and taken to the mortuary, and that the matter has been reported to the Marine Police.
He called on the government to beef up security along the waterway as there is currently no security presence.
The Police was yet to react to the incident as at the time of filing this report.
