A social political group, Network for Defence of Democracy and Good Governance, NDDGG, has taken a swipe at the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as the worst since the creation of the state.
One of the leaders of the group, Wosu Lloyd made this known at a press conference in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
He said the assembly only exists to give speedy passage to executive bills and grant loan requests of the state governor without due process.
Mr Wosu also described the assembly as “rubber stamp” that cannot present the financial expenditure of the state executive.
He noted that the speedy passage of the 2022 budget into law without subjecting it to any legislative process, simply shows that they are mere tools in the hands of the governor.
The NDDGG leader, challenged the assembly to come up with media coverage of the budget passage, showing representatives of various ministries and stakeholders who witnessed the exercise.
He also slammed Governor Wike for criticizing President Buhari over his refusal to sign the Amended Electoral Act into law, adding that his statement amounts to double standard as he had earlier vowed to take the matter to court, if the president had assented to it.
Wosu, added that direct primaries for political parties and electronic transmission of results are necessary to strengthening the nation’s democratic process.
