The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has unveiled the newly constructed Emohua Legislative Council Complex, commending the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, for his developmental strides.
This was made known by Martins Wachukwu, Media Aide to the Speaker, in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Amaewhule described Lloyd as a special chairman who understands the responsibilities of leadership and the developmental aspirations of his people.
The Speaker made the remarks during the unveiling of the legislative complex, where he was also honoured with the Icon of Democracy Award in recognition of his contributions to justice, equity, democracy and the defence of constitutional rights.
Speaking at the event, Amaewhule expressed delight at being in Emohua, noting that the people of the area had consistently demonstrated support for the political leadership of Rivers State, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
He acknowledged the contributions of traditional and political leaders in the area, including His Majesty, Eze Sergeant Awuse, Nyewe-Ali Emohua, and Dr. Chidi Lloyd.
Commending the council chairman, the Speaker said, “This chairman is a very special chairman. He is one chairman who understands what he is doing. This chairman understands where he is coming from and where he is going.”
He added that the projects inspected and commissioned reflected the chairman’s commitment to development, urging him to sustain the efforts.
Amaewhule also charged councillors to leave lasting legacies through effective lawmaking and the enactment of bye-laws that would promote development at the grassroots.
Addressing the people on behalf of the Rainbow Coalition, the Speaker appreciated their continued support and urged them to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the President’s appointments involving Rivers State, including Wike’s appointment as FCT Minister, as well as federal interventions such as the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road project.
He also called for support for Rep. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as governor and other candidates of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.
In his remarks, the Emohua Council Chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, attributing the country’s improved revenue profile to his policies and the protection of critical national infrastructure, which he said had contributed to increased oil production.
Lloyd described Amaewhule as a beacon of hope for present and future legislators in Rivers State, commending his courage and consistency in defending legislative autonomy and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Icon of Democracy Award to Amaewhule by the Leader of the Emohua Legislative Council, Mrs. Love Nyenel.
