The Rivers State House of Assembly has given the first reading to the state’s proposed ₦1.854 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, assuring residents that the budget would receive the attention required for its timely consideration and passage.
The bill was presented by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the plenary on Friday.
Tagged the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” the governor described the proposal as the product of extensive public participation aimed at building “an economically resilient, thriving and prosperous Rivers State.”
Fubara urged members of the Assembly to set aside political differences and ensure the prompt passage of the budget to facilitate the implementation of government programmes.
Reacting after the presentation, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, acknowledged that the 2026 Appropriation Bill came later than expected but assured that lawmakers would give it the necessary attention.
According to the Speaker, the Assembly would thoroughly scrutinise the budget to ensure it aligns with the aspirations and needs of the people of Rivers State.
Amaewhule also appealed to all stakeholders involved in the budgeting process to cooperate with the legislature to ensure the smooth passage of the appropriation bill.
