Nigeria’s Junior Men’s Handball Team have qualified for the 2027 IHF Men’s U21 World Championship in North Macedonia after defeating Guinea 28-23 in the quarter-final of the 33rd Africa Men’s Junior Handball Championship in Abidjan.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, disclosed this in a statement, describing the victory as a significant achievement for Team Nigeria.
The victory also booked the Coach David Emmanuel-tutored side a place in the semi-finals, where they will face Tunisia.
Tunisia secured their semi-final spot after defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 36-20 in their quarter-final encounter.
Nigeria’s qualification marks the country’s fourth appearance at the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship, having previously qualified in 1981, 1985 and 2019.
With their qualification for the global tournament secured, the Nigerian side will now shift focus to their semi-final clash against Tunisia as they continue their quest for the African title.
