The ruling of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt which sacked 14 House of Assembly candidates of the New Nigeria People’s Party, in Rivers State has been set aside by the court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt.
Justice Turaki of the FHC had ordered INEC not to recognize the 14 candidates that the party failed to comply with the Electoral Act in a suit filed by the PDP.
The Appeal Court in its ruling Today, said the PDP lacks the right to challenge another party’s primary, and that the FHC lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to reinstate the affected candidates.
The PDP in Rivers had dragged various political parties to court claiming that their primaries were not inline with the Electoral Act.
