Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the decision by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to withdraw from the 2027 governorship race is part of a political peace arrangement aimed at restoring stability in the state.
Wike made the remark on Monday while speaking to journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja.
According to the former Rivers governor, the move aligns with agreements reached during reconciliation efforts involving major political stakeholders in Rivers State.
Fubara had recently withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary, stating that the decision followed wide consultations and was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State.
Wike further disclosed that part of the agreement involved the suspension of impeachment threats against Fubara on the condition that he would not seek a second term in office.
