The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would commence on Friday, October 9, 2026, urging eligible Nigerians to participate.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, disclosed this on Monday at a strategic workshop for media executives organised in collaboration with Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) in Abuja.
Amupitan disclosed that Nigeria’s National Register of Voters has risen above 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan said the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise attracted more than 10.6 million new applicants, while the public display of the Preliminary Register and final Automated Biometric Identification System cleanup had been completed.
The INEC chairman also called for stronger collaboration with the media and civil society to combat misinformation and build public trust in the electoral process.
“The ultimate arbiter of electoral integrity is public trust,” Amupitan said.
NGE President, Mr Eze Anaba, urged editors to uphold accuracy, fairness and balance in electoral reporting, while INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, called on the media to provide citizens with accurate and timely information ahead of the elections.
