The Rivers State government has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) of media trials of some of its officials, warning them to desist from the act.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paulinus Nsirim made this known in a statement yesterday.
Nsirim was reacting to the latest attempt contained in an edition of The Nation Newspaper alleging that the State Government has refused to release top officials for interrogation in connection to the withdrawal of N118 billion in cash between 2015 and 2018.
Nsirim reiterated that there is an order of court stopping the commission from investigating officials of the state government. He said until that order is set aside, the state will not release the said officials for trial.
He further pointed out that the media trial can best be described as cheap blackmail and a witch-hunt to turn away public attention from the development strides in the state.
The EFCC had accused some officials of the state government of illegally withdrawing N118 in cash. It has for a long time been trying to get the said officials for investigation and interrogation.
