For the first time in its history, the Premier League will have six clubs competing in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The landmark was confirmed on Thursday night, May 8, after Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the Europa League final. United defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in their semi-final second leg, completing a 7-1 aggregate victory. Tottenham also booked their place with a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt in Norway, securing a 5-1 aggregate result.
England had already secured five Champions League places due to strong European campaigns by Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa. The latest results now ensure a record sixth spot for Premier League sides in Europe’s top club competition.
