Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi says construction of the Maiduguri to Port Harcourt rail lines would begin in July while that of Kaduna-Kano would begin this month.
The Minister said this when the leadership of the Nigerian Army led by its Chief of Staff, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya paid him a courtesy visit on Friday in Abuja.
Amaechi, urged the Army to ensure protection of workers on the rail lines when the projects begin.
He stated that the presence of the military and other security agencies would boost the morale of the workers and give them good sense of security in all construction sites.
The Minister, said the request became necessary due to the security challenges in the country.
He further explained that some railway projects pass through military establishments particularly the rail track linking Kaduna and Kano.
