Residents of Waterfront at the Iloabuchi axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt, were this morning seen packing out of their homes as the demolition of shanties enters its third day.
Our correspondent, who visited the area said there is “panic packing” by residents, adding that some areas have been deserted.
The state government yesterday, demolished shanties at the Awkuzu and Ojike axis of the waterfront.
Residents say heavily armed security operatives accompained officials of the state government, who stormed the area with a brand new bulldozer after the previous one broke down on Sunday while demolishing the Elechi axis.
One of them said they pleaded with the officials to allow them pick some of their belongings but, they refused and threatened to shoot them.
The state government had earlier issued a 7-day ultimatum to residents to vacate the area, marked for demolition.
