Organisers of Saturday’s peaceful protest against the activities of ‘one chance’ operators in Rivers State have met with the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju to present their demands and seek urgent action to curb the menace.
One of the organisers of the protest, Felix Opuiyo, disclosed this in a statement following the meeting held on Wednesday.
According to him, the meeting was productive, as the group presented its demands and received responses from the Commissioner of Police.
Opuiyo also revealed that the police informed them that more than 10 suspected “one chance” operators were currently in custody, alongside other measures being taken to tackle the menace.
“The meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, was very productive. We presented our demands, and the Commissioner responded to every one of them,” he said.
“We were also briefed on several measures already being taken to tackle the One Chance menace. More than 10 suspects are currently in custody, among other ongoing efforts.“
“I can’t reveal everything discussed at this time, but one thing is clear, the government has heard us, and the police have heard us. Now, we will watch, follow up, and hold them accountable for the commitments made,” Opuiyo added.
During the demonstration on Saturday, the protesters proceeded to the Rivers State Government House, where they were addressed by a government official. However, they were unable to meet with the Commissioner of Police, who was unavailable at the time.
A meeting with the Commissioner was subsequently scheduled for Wednesday, which led to the engagement.
