Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state to demonstrate patriotism, integrity and selflessness by making meaningful and lasting contributions to their host communities.
Fubara gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa/Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, the governor urged the corps members to serve with dedication and commitment, stressing that they have a responsibility to contribute to building a nation that reflects the aspirations of its citizens.
He encouraged them to positively impact their places of primary assignment and improve the lives of residents in their host communities throughout their service year.
The governor also assured the corps members that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and security while providing a conducive environment for them to discharge their national duties.
In his farewell address, the NYSC State Coordinator in Rivers, Mr. Moses Oleghe, urged the corps members to use the service year to acquire new skills and valuable experiences that would contribute to their personal and professional development.
Oleghe described the NYSC programme as an opportunity for self-development, community service and nation-building.
A total of 3,344 corps members, comprising 1,357 males and 1,987 females, successfully completed the orientation course and have been deployed to various places of primary assignment across Rivers State.
