The Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Hon. Evans Bipi has described as false and baseless an allegation that the distribution of Federal Government palliatives to poor and vulnerable people in the State is being politicized by the Rivers State Government.
According to Emeka Idika Kalu – Chief Press Secretary of the council, Bipi while speaking to newsmen during the distribution of the food items in Ogu said like other Local Government Areas, the food items were distributed evenly in Ogu/Bolo to the poor and vulnerable people across the twelve Wards of the area without political, religious and ethnic considerations.
He stated that the allegation by the opposition is intended to whip up public sentiment against the Rivers State Government and create a rift between the Federal and State Governments in order to score cheap political points.
He said, “This number of persons you are seeing here are not members of the Simplified Movement, they are indigenes of the Local Government Area; they are the poor, the needy and the most vulnerable, you can see physically challenged persons, you can also see the clergies, so you cannot say they are supporters or sympathizers of the Governor which is very wrong”
“Those making such insinuation should disabuse their minds of such because the Governor is for everybody”
“Moreover the palliatives came from the Federal Government, we are not politicizing the distribution; we are not being sentimental or discriminatory in the distribution, the sharing is all encompassing cutting across all segments of the rural poor and vulnerable people without political considerations”.
