The Ogoni Association of Persons Living with Disabilities has demanded the implementation of a five-point agenda by the Ogoni Development Commission (ODC) and the Federal Government in the process of resuming oil production in Ogoniland.
The association made the demand during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, insisting that persons living with disabilities must be included in decisions concerning the resumption of oil production in the area.
The association said it was not opposed to development or the responsible and lawful resumption of oil production but would resist any process characterised by exclusion, discrimination and injustice.
“We are not opposed to development. We do not oppose the responsible and lawful resumption of oil production. We oppose exclusion, discrimination, injustice, and decisions that determine our future without our participation,” the association said.
It stressed the need for its members to be involved in the decision-making process to ensure that their rights, interests and welfare were adequately protected.
