Senator Olaka Johnson Nwogu has assured the Ogoni people that ongoing talks with the Federal Government are being conducted responsibly and in their collective interest.
Nwogu, Chairman of the Harmonisation Committee of the Ogoni Dialogue Committee (ODC), gave the assurance while speaking to journalists in Rivers State on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to his media team, he explained that the ODC remains a standing body chaired by Professor Don Baridam, while his committee is responsible for harmonising positions presented during the dialogue and leading the current phase of discussions.
The lawmaker said the talks have focused on securing benefits for Ogoni in employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, business opportunities, security and environmental protection.
He also identified the establishment of the Federal University of Environment as a confidence-building outcome that would create opportunities for young people and support regional development.
The senator dismissed suggestions of division among Ogoni leaders, noting that differences of opinion should not be mistaken for disunity. He assured the people that no final agreement would be concluded on their behalf without first presenting the outcome of the negotiations for their consideration.
Nwogu urged the Ogoni people to remain calm, united and hopeful, stressing that the shared objective is to build a safer, more prosperous and economically vibrant Ogoniland for present and future generations.
