The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended Justice Sobere Biambo of the Rivers State High Court for one year without pay over alleged judicial misconduct.
The decision was taken at the council’s 112th meeting held in Abuja, where three judicial officers were suspended for one year without pay.
The other affected officers are Justice Hannatu Mohammed Kabir of the Nasarawa State High Court and Grand Kadi Mohammed Sani Salihu of the Jigawa State Sharia Court of Appeal.
The NJC also barred Justice Kabir from elevation for three years and placed a three-year restriction on the elevation of Justice Biambo over the issuance of bench warrants and imposition of fines on litigants in a civil dispute without following due process.
In addition, the council issued warning letters to three judicial officers and cautioned eight others.
The NJC also directed the Imo State Judicial Service Commission to include the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Ijeoma Agugua, among candidates to be interviewed for the substantive position of Chief Judge of the state.
The council further recommended 28 candidates for judicial appointments.
