The Nigerian Navy has recovered about 52,600 litres of suspected stolen crude oil during an intelligence-led operation aimed at combating crude oil theft in Rivers State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Delta Sentinel, is part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to tackle crude oil theft and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta.
According to the Navy, personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder intercepted two wooden boats at Ogoloma in Okrika Local Government Area after acting on credible intelligence gathered during a routine patrol.
The suspects were reportedly preparing to offload the suspected petroleum products when naval operatives swooped in and intercepted the boats.
A search of the vessels led to the discovery of about 250 sacks containing approximately 52,600 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.
The patrol team also recovered several materials believed to be intended for the construction of illegal refining sites, indicating plans to expand illicit refining operations before the intervention of security personnel.
The latest seizure highlights the Nigerian Navy’s continued crackdown on economic sabotage and its commitment to protecting the nation’s oil infrastructure.
