The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to improve electricity access across the Niger Delta region.
The agreement was signed at the REA headquarters in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and accelerate sustainable development across the nine Niger Delta states.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, described the MoU as a strategic step aligned with the Commission’s vision to “light up the Niger Delta” through expanded distributed energy solutions.
He said the partnership goes beyond a formal agreement and reflects a shared responsibility to deliver reliable electricity that will stimulate economic growth, enhance social services, and improve living standards in communities across the region.
Dr. Ogbuku noted that improved power supply remains a critical driver for development and investment, adding that the collaboration will help fast-track energy projects in underserved areas.
In his remarks, REA Managing Director, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, commended the NDDC for the partnership, describing it as a natural alliance between two complementary intervention agencies.
