The leadership of the National Democratic Congress on Wednesday approved direct primaries for State Assembly positions ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
The decision followed what the party described as extensive consultations and deliberations involving members of the National Working Committee, the Selection Committee, and other key stakeholders.
According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the meeting was attended by the National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas, presidential aspirant Peter Obi, alongside other senior party officials.
The statement noted that the party leadership adopted the report of the screening committee chaired by former Sam Egwu after nearly one week of screening aspirants from across the country.
The party also praised the committee for what it described as its commitment and professionalism throughout the exercise.
“The NDC commends the Screening Committee for its diligence, professionalism, and sacrifice throughout the rigorous screening process, which lasted nearly one week and involved an overwhelming number of aspirants across the country,” the statement read.
