The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the recalled Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour reported in France does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the Nigerian market.
The French authorities (Rappel Conso) had recalled the product due to the presence of undeclared allergens, including milk and eggs, which could pose health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.
In its statement, NAFDAC explained that noodles are listed on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation into Nigeria illegal and significantly reducing the likelihood of the affected product entering the country.
As part of proactive measures, NAFDAC said it has intensified surveillance nationwide, directing all zonal directors and state coordinators to remain vigilant and remove the product if found within their jurisdictions. The Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on alert to prevent any attempted importation.
The agency further assured the public that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands registered by NAFDAC for sale in Nigeria are manufactured locally and approved only after meeting stringent regulatory requirements, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
NAFDAC urged consumers to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered food products, and report any suspected sale or distribution of the recalled product to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the toll-free line 0800-162-3322. Reports can also be submitted through the agency’s e-reporting platforms.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of food products available to Nigerians.
