Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike cannot determine her chances of returning to the Senate in 2027, insisting that she cannot be intimidated.
Kingibe was reacting to Wike’s criticism of her for questioning the spending of his administration, during which he reportedly declared that she would not return to the Senate.
Speaking on Arise News, the senator maintained that holding the government accountable is part of her legislative responsibility, stressing that she has a duty to ask questions, demand transparency and defend the constitutional principles of democracy.
She explained that raising concerns about public borrowing, the management of public funds and the conduct of government officials should not be misconstrued as disrespect.
“If I raise questions about public borrowing, public funds, or the conduct of government, it is not an act of disrespect; it is part of my duty as a legislator,” Kingibe said.
