A civic activist, Saviour Oscar Imeabe, has criticised the poor condition of roads in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, alleging that the deteriorating infrastructure has led to several road accidents, injuries and damage to vehicles.
Imeabe, in a statement, questioned how the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Thomas Bariere, has utilised the council’s allocations, describing the state of roads in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoniland, as unacceptable.
He also criticised former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, over what he described as the legacy of poor governance in the area.
“We have witness so many Accident resulting to injuries and damage of vehicles cause by the condition of this Roads. The khana Chairman cannot tell us that he is ignorant of the condition of all this Roads. It is high time we start calling some of this failled local goverment Chairmen for accountability,” he said.
The activist called on the Khana Local Government Council to urgently rehabilitate the affected roads to safeguard lives and improve transportation within the area.
The council chairman and other relevant agencies had yet to react to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
