The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has approved Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 2026, as the new dates for its 44th convocation ceremony.
The approval was granted by the Rivers State Governor and Visitor to the university, Siminalayi Fubara, according to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ngozi Okiridu after an emergency Senate meeting held on Wednesday.
Chairman of Senate, Okechuku Onuchuku, announced that the first day of the ceremony, May 8, will feature the award of first degrees and prizes, while May 9 will be dedicated to the conferment of postgraduate degrees.
The Senate also confirmed the promotion of 35 academic staff to the rank of Professors, alongside the elevation of 41 others to Associate Professors (Readers), following the ratification of their appointments by the university’s governing council.
Congratulating the newly promoted staff, Onuchuku urged them to provide academic leadership and mentorship, emphasizing the need to support the advancement of qualified colleagues within the system.
