Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has updated its official portal to recognise David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development follows a judgment by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which voided earlier court orders that had effectively frozen the party’s leadership structure. The previous rulings had led INEC to suspend recognition of any faction amid the protracted internal crisis.
With the latest update, Mark is restored as National Chairman, while Aregbesola resumes his position as National Secretary, alongside other members of the party’s leadership.
Despite this move, the leadership dispute remains unresolved. The Supreme Court declined to determine the substantive issues, instead referring the matter back to the Federal High Court, leaving the ADC’s internal struggle ongoing.
