The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a bye-election to fill the vacant seat in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
In a public announcement issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, the election is scheduled to take place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
According to the Commission, the bye-election will be conducted across 88 Registration Areas (RAs/Wards) and 1,629 Polling Units spread across the seven Local Government Areas that make up the senatorial district.
The affected local government areas are Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana, and Gokana.
INEC assured residents and stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible bye-election.
